The Truth Speakers! ...free Auratone Impulse Reponses

I've been meaning to share this here for a while.
“You know what Quincy [Jones] calls them? The Truth Speakers! There's no hype with an Auratone.... Probably 80 percent of the mix is done on Auratones, and then I'll have a final listen or two on the big speakers." - Michael Jackson's long time Producer & Engineer, Bruce Swedien.
I've been using the Impulse Responses (available in this thread) to check the levels in my mixes.

Yes, not as good a the real thing, but it's still been one of the most useful things on my main bus.
Example (of the real thing) from Youtube:

Edit: fixed Mr Swedien's first name.

I just tried this on a recent mix and I thought it sounded pretty good, does that mean I did a good job?
Seriously, the thought is, if it sounds good on these speakers (or Impulse Response) then it will sound good on any system, is this what we're talking about?

yeah Marc,
that is what I get.
of course, its not prefect - Horrotones only had one speaker. we are probably all listening on full range 2 or 3 way models. actually, if the impulse response is really good, I imagine that the more true your speakers are, the better the "simulation" is.

I have a pair of these, the passive models. They now make active models and in different colors.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MixCubesActB/
They are designed to sound very similar to the Auratones. If you have a small stereo amp laying around the passive ones are fine, but if I were to do it again, I'd get the active model.
These are very good for checking the midrange.

I've got my eye on these Behritones (
Behringer C5As):
There's a good review/comparison of the different options here:
http://trustmeimascientist.com/2012/02/ ... -review/
The Great Auratone Roundup (With Reviews of the Avantone and Behritone Studio Monitors)
Plus, there are these Pyramid ones:
http://www.triplepdesigns.com/pyramids.htm
"95% of people listen to music in their cars or on a cheap home stereo. If your mix doesn't sound good on a pair of small speakers, what's the point? A pair of $10,000 powered monitors may sound pristine, but no one else has them, so you're more likely to have a translation problem." - Chris Lord-Alge, Grammy winning Engineer (Electronic Musician April 2001)

I've got a pair of Auratones and I found Bruce Swedien's quote interesting. I sure don't use mine 80% of the time. Maybe 20% at most. But I think it's essential to have something other than your main speakers to listen to your mix through. I also use 2 different types of head phone to check a mix.

Right, Jimmy; the man's name is Bruce, not Bob.

No biggie- just a "little white lie".
