I just found one of those shortcuts that I didn't know existed but has bugged me for years [I reckon}. 
Scrolling through the session in Pro tool's main editor and midi editor windows using SHIFT plus SCROLL wheel on the mouse.
Pretty basic but it means a lot to me.
