So.....
I have decided I need some lessons to improve my production chops. Given time restraints, etc I am hoping to find an online tutor that would teach indvidual lessons via Skype and a screen share to assist me learn how to improve the recordings I am currenty working on.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Not interactive but absolutely free, made by a world-class engineer working on real-deal artist tracks, and made a great deal of difference to my production.

Thanks Russell! Looks like a good course!

Yes, Pensado's place does have some good tips Matt, I usually try and watch his episodes at least once a month

These are great, I've watched many of them over the years I think it's cool how he give's stuff back to people like us. It's also great if you have any Waves plugins with his presets so you can understand why he's set them the way he has in the context of a mix.

I thoroughly recommend "Mixing Secrets for The Small Studio" by Mike Senior , when I got serious this was the book that helped me the most. I think the reason is because all the other books I'd read about mixing were geared towards people working in Pro Studios with high end equipment and great musicians. Whereas as this book brings it down to our level and how to work around all the compromises of home studios and still get what Taxi would call "Broadcast Quality" results.

I was then able to follow up and get specific feedback from Mike ( at a cost ) on mixes I was working on which REALLY helped up my game. It wasn't cheap but he was very insightful and after working through half a dozen or so tracks over a year with him he came back and said I was now making mixes that were close to commercial release quality.

Wow mark, that would be useful, getting personal tips from mike.

I have just gone into his website and he still seems to offer this service. Hmm, I may send a message and see what he says!

Nothing better than professional feedback..but I would work through his book first as a primer.

There are mutitracks on his site you can practice with.

Absolutely - me too. I used to read this on my phone when I was commuting to work on the tube; I learned almost everything I know about mixing from these forums, Mike Senior, Dave Pensado and trial-and-error.

Ironically the upshot of all that is I do almost everything with panning, reverb, levels and filters.

Hey, I f Mike Senior had a son named Mike, would he be Mike Senior, Jr?
