Do many people here 'high pass filter' their master bus ie. the entire mix?

Stuart, the title seems to conflict with "high pass filter".

high pass filter= don't filter the highs (pass on the highs), filter the lows, and a filter generally means to filter something out, or filter the lows, pass on filtering the highs (let them pass freely).

If you are asking about a subharmonics generator? for certain genres or effect?

General boosting of the low end is more likely to include boosting the fundamental frequencies rather than the harmonics, and end up in a mess? I don't know,lol, I just googled subharmonic generator and this is one of the plugins I saw,lol! I didn't know there was such a thing before!

Most of my HP filtering is done on individual tracks. I only use it on the master channel if it needs it, but it's usually no more than 30 hz.

I usually have a hpf set on the sides in m/s mode on the master and can set this higher to keep the low sub info just in the center channel. Otherwise, individual channels get their own based on the source material.

Hey Stewart, most of the time I do filter my main bus, even after filtering all of the individual tracks.
On the Low End I may cut everything from 30Hz and below so I can push the 50-75Hz a little harder (been doing this recently)
On the High End I do a -6db Pass to taste, usualy checking it against a ref track.
Seems to pleasently soften the upper range.
But trust me, I'm still expirementing!!!

Same. If it's a really sub-y sounding track and it's feeling a little polite I will sometimes raise the M channel filter as well to where it feels right or go back in and filter the bass and / or kick as Scott says that's usually what has the most influence.

Rarely. I'm with everyone else - in the very rare occasions that I do it, it's usually a cut around the 20-30Hz mark.

Usually, though, if I find that I need to apply a high pass filter to the master bus, it means that my mix is incorrect so it'll sound WAY better if I just redid the entire mix.

Good tip, I will try this on the next track I master.

In general I've very rarely felt the need the HPF the master buss, it seems to be a bit of a blunt instrument but it would probably be a very gentle slope if I did use one.
