Suffered a hard drive failure in the studio last week, most of my stuff was backed up. I found the Seagate 4TB Hybrid SSD drive and so far so good. It provides 4TB of storage, but has 8GB of NAND flash memory and 64MB of DRAM cache.What does that mean in English? This large drive has a smaller fast SSD drive that stores most recently requested files. it means faster performance, while still giving you a lot more storage. And it comes with a 5 year warranty.

This is a 3.5" drive, usually meant to install inside of a PC tower. If you use it as an external drive like I do, make sure you get an enclosure that supports USB 3.1. The USB 3 enclosure I ordered with it originally didn't work, the drive would connect then disconnect. Went with the Vantec NextStar 3.1 enclosure and all is well.

Have been re-installing Kontakt since last night, today has been re-installing my many Massive libraries. I ended up losing lots of samples because of the hard drive crash, there was a folder on that drive that I forgot about that was not getting backed up. So, my studio has been given an enema, or maybe a late spring cleaning.

But. the drive is zooming along great so I'm happy. And better organized now. And have corrected my backup items.

NAND flash memory is a type of non-volatile storage technology that does not require power to retain data.

That's good, so when you power off and back on it will have the same memory loaded. Should offer less wear and tear on the HD if you mainly use what's in the 8 gb memory.

Good thing having a 5 year warranty, as it seems to be a new technology. Probably don't have stats yet on reliability.
