Having problems upgrading Kontakt instruments?

I was having problems upgrading a few instruments, specifically Massive, Absynth, FM8 and Kontakt itself (to version 5.6.5). Kept getting errors about not being able to mount the drive, or just "an error occurred."
Much searching later I finally found a pertinent article:

You have to remove all of the app installed directories and then re-install. Worked great for me.

I'm in the middle of trying to resolve an issue with Kontakt and Maschine not being able to update.
I'm on a PC with Windows 10 and not able to update through the Native Access app. I get an error that says "Uninstall error" when I try to update. I have a support ticket in with NI and they just sent me a new NI Diagnostic Tool to gather info on my computer and create a file to email back to them. I've had problems with NI updates ever since I've used their stuff. Many times an update won't go through and tells me to re-install from original disks and try the update again. Just a couple of months ago they had to send me new ISO files for Kontakt and some other synths to resolve the issue.
They have awesome instruments but their updates and tech support have been some of the worst in my experience.
