So, I know there aren’t too many Propellerheads out here in the Taxiverse… but I’m excited! Reason starts supporting VST plugins and virtual instruments starting tomorrow! It’s a free upgrade from 9 to 9.5!

I started on Reason Adapted about 10 years ago when it came in a bundle with my first interface - the Digidesign 003 Rack. I started using Reason as my main DAW when they integrated audio recording. I even ditched the 003 rack (firewire) in favor of the 2 channel Propellerhead Balance - which I still use now. But I forced myself to ditch Reason for Logic when I realized how much I was missing not being able to take advantage of other companies’ virtual instruments. Yes, I tried to make Rewire part of my workflow, but it was too clunky and time consuming to justify. So, last October I put Reason 9 on the shelf and 6 months later… BOOM! :D

Well, the artist formerly known as ReasonDemon might disagree with that first bit, but VST integration is certainly a welcome improvement to an already great EDM platform.

I love Reason and have been using it as a side platform for about 15 years.

One of the things that turns me off is the sample quality . IOW, an orchestral sample may be 675k in Reason whereby a similar sample would ne 120 megs in a "Library " Package.

The sounds and loops are very hip but lack the richness and depth of libraries specializing in certain sounds. I think this is why Reason is so stable and such a powerhouse at sequencing. It's hardly using any RAM or CPU usage because the samples that have to load up are so small.

I have to admit. I just love the virtual SSl console!
