He's probably the second mix engineer I learned from, mainly because his lessons on his show are free.
I had put my guitar and audio gear up back in the 1990's, until I got a call from a local sound engineer who was looking for someone with any experience as a helper (I had an analog demo studio setup in my basement back in the '80's, 8-track reel, 12 channel mixing board, DBX gear, etc.). I had spoken to a lady that ran a video store who liked Phil Collins. She'd always have one of his concert videos playing in her store, and I'd comment on how I might mix something different on the video. She knew this sound engineer that called me. (She didn't tell me she was going to call him and recommend me, nor did she tell me she used to work in radio in a studio in Canada.) That's when I got back into it. The guy got me up to speed in the DAW world. I did mostly editing type chores for him in exchange for mix lessons. So I learned the tweaky stuff first, correcting timing issues, cleaning up noise, bouncing drums to individual tracks, setting rough mix levels to prep, correcting phase issues, editing vocals, etc.
