Oh man, thank you so much for posting this Kolstad. I'm sure at some point today my iMac will ask if I'd like to update. And I would have probably hit yes, and gone to lunch.......And then, I would come back and none of my UA plugins would be working.....NIGHTMARE Scenario avoided!!

Yeah, seems there are lots of stuff in the danger zone, so dont take that invitation yet unless you are a reckless gambler..

As always with OS updates, musicians should wait 6-12 months, and check with the companies first.. but this seems to be a major one.

OS software is almost always backward compatible. It's usually the new third party software that may not be compatible with an old OS. Unless your old software is really really old, it shouldn't be a problem. That's not to say that an upgrade is without problems, hitches and glitches, but there's usually a solution.

That said, imho, the only reason I can think of to upgrade is to be able to purchase software that is only available for a newer OS. For example, I am still on Windows XP, and can't purchase plugins only available for Windows 7 and higher.

They used to say an upgrade was for security, but with all the applications now that track your every likes, dislikes and behaviors, that info is readily available, and why would anyone target an old OS, you're probably broke right?? Of course with all the new fangled piracy protection schemes, they probably require a newer OS to operate, right?? If I bought something, why would I want to steal it, unless that's the only way to get it to work.

Sweetwater have updated the compatibility list for High Sierra now (27.12.17), still some to go, but a lot more compatibility now.
