Hi Tracktion users!
..is there a way to edit hisses, pops or unwanted breath noise on a vocal track in Tracktion?
thanks,

Hi Linda - there are a couple of options. I'll often edit the wav into several clips and use a fade just prior to or just after a phrase to edit out noise. The other option is to automate the vocal track, go in and draw lines for volume. If those fixes don't work then I might retake that particular phrase... I usually record a vocal several times and sometimes I'll borrow a clean phrase from another take (as long as it has the same vibe).
Hope that helps. I could do a screen shot or two if you need
cheers
H

Vikki,
Thank you! I will try these and let you know how I make out! I wish I could afford Melodyne Editor..I have Essentials...
It's funny.interesting.odd.whatever how one has the capability to edit MIDI tracks with great detail, erasing, etc, but we can't erase part of a vocal or guitar/instrument.
Best,
Linda

I don't know Tracktion but in most DAWs (I use Cubase) you can expand the waveform down to very high resolution, clip separate parts of the track with the scissors tool, and mute out or decrease the gain on spikes, breath sounds, etc.
For example, I zero in on a spike, scissor clip to the right and left of it at waveform crossover points and mute or gain reduce the spike.
If you sent me a raw vocal waveform (wav or aif), I could try to do it for you.
Best

If there is a constant hiss throughout the track (like tape hiss) then you could try pulling the raw wav/aiff file into Audacity and using the built in noise removal tool. You need to select a section of the file that has *only* the noise, and then select the entire track and run the removal. WARNING: If you do this you should make sure to work on a copy of the original file, because if you overdo it the effect can leave terrible artifacts, so you always want to have a copy of your pristine take that you can go back to.
Re: breathy vocals, if the breathiness tends to be at the end of words (rather than just before the start of the line) then you could try using a Transient Shaper to shorten the envelope. You would usually use this application to cut off excess room noise, but it might work with breathy vocals, too.
Hope this helps!

Casey, Bill and Vikki,
Thank you! I did what you, Vikki ,suggested, the clip split then the fade...it worked..wasn't able to figure out the automation method you mentioned tho...
You are very generous, Casey, to want to accept a clip from me to fix! And Bill, I will check out what you suggested as well..
Take care all!
Linda

Glad it worked out, Linda!
On **MY** vocals, people usually want to keep the clicks and pops and mute the rest!
