Improving production?

Several of my returns have contained the comment that I need to improve my production. I want to comply, but have no idea what that statement means. Can anyone recommend training I can take to understand and improve production? I searched on YouTube but do not know which "expert" to listen to. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you

why dont you post one in the peer to peer forum and ask about the production? might give you a starting point

Hi! I second what PP said about posting in Peer to Peer to get specific feedback.
I’m training with Musician on a Mission right now but I don’t have enough under my belt to give you useful feedback. I’ve also found Graham Cochrane’s resources to be helpful at my beginner stage.
Good luck! Hope to hear your music soon.

I second Kolstad, and would highly recommend posting in P2P section.
Also it all depends on the style of music you're into. It could be a recording issue, a mnitoring issue, it could be a sample choice issue, it could be an improper mix issue etc..
So in order to understand and to pin point the real problem, you could ask for feedback in the peer to peer.
There are tons of resources online, as Graham stated earlier, but unless you really define what the problem(s) is/are, it would feel like you're swimming in an overwhelming ocean of knowledge.

I will put in another vote for Peer2Peer! My production skills weren't bad to start, and production has only been mentioned on a couple of my returns, but I almost always post in P2P before submitting for a listing and I learn something new almost every time. The amount of knowledge lurking on this forum is unbelievable!
I look forward to seeing your posts on P2P in the near future :)

Hey Dalahast, on top of the Peer-to-Peer recommendation (can't stress that enough!) that others have made, I'd also suggest going to the annual Taxi Road Rally, which will be held again in November. There's nothing quite like taking back-to-back-to-back master classes from Grammy winning producers, all day, for 3 solid days.
But since that won't happen again until November, check out Coursera (
www.coursera.com), which is a free online educational service where you can take online classes from people who are experts in their respective fields. Type in "music production" into the search bar, see what comes up, and sign up for a 6 week class.
