Bluetooth Speaker * Mix?

Hey All,

I've been working on a mix, and both my Shure and Sennheiser headphones took a dump... I ALWAYS mix through monitors, but late at night when wifey is in bed, I can't do that.

So I sent a line-in to my Harmon/Kardon Bluetooh speaker input... Ya know, that is one of the best sounding mono/stereo speakers I've ever heard! It's about the size of a large plate, and I bought it at "Worst Buy" for about $200. It's incredible for listening to music. Plenty of low end, mids and highs!

But as a MIX speaker, it's like a home stereo speaker --- Doesn't translate very well... I spent HOURS mixing at low volume on that sucker, and thought I had a fantastic mix.

Next day, I burned a CD and listened to that mix... SUCKED!... So I was back to square one... Today, I turned on my Yamaha NS-10M's pushed by a high-powered QVC power amp, and cross-referenced the mix through my Definitive Technology larger speakers. Bingo! It was like coming home.

All for now,

Ern :)

Hey Ern,
I've run into the same problem before. The only thing that helps a bit is to listen to your reference track several times while mixing. For ex: After mixing your bass and drums, go back to your reference and see how close you are. Same with guitars, vocals etc. Any Eqs that you're adding, make sure it's to try to mimic your reference. But use it very sparingly.
