hey guys.

my midi keyboard is dropping out (no sound) after about 15 min. every time i start up my sonar 8.0.

when i close and reopen the sonar it works for another 15 min. and so on... i have not made any changes on anything (sonar , laptop, midi keyboard or cables) or downloaded any plugins or anything prior to this issue. any idea what might cause it?

thanks,

paul b. nygård

I'm presuming it's the audio out of the keyboard and you aren't just using the keyboard as a midi controller with a plugin instrument?
are you using asio or some other device driver such as realtek? usually already installed audio cards default to realtek
If you can configure both for asio, the card and Sonar

you may need to download asio for all

i'm talking midi here. and i use the same driver as before, when it worked, nothing's changed. just weird. it's the curse of the digital age i guess, weird things happen 8-)

some instrument plugins stop after 15 minutes if you are in demo mode, or if you have the license it isn't where the plugin expects to see it. Also if you buy an instrument that needs the full Kontact version and you run it in the player version, it quits after 15 minutes and you need to restart after 15 minutes for another 15.

ok, there seems to be a 15-minutes issue, but it souldn't be with me. i use no demo version of anything. as i said, it's all the same as when it worked a short time ago. a friend of mine thinks it could be the cable, but he really don't know. perhaps i should reinstall the driver for the keyboard?

re plug the cable before you do anything, if you haven't already.

Hmm... Digital audio is a conundrum. I once couldn't get ANY Midi out of my controller, even though other sound sources worked just fine!

As far as the 15 minute thing, that's bizarre. But in MY case, it was as simple as a bad Midi cable... Just like in "The old days." If your guitar didn't work. it was ALWAYS a bad cable... I'm not saying that's your problem, but sometimes it's as simple as that!

Good luck,

Ern

the 15 minute thing is odd. If you have a couple of different standalone instruments I would try them in standalone mode and also check for the license details in the plugin itself, there is usually something to click on for the details or it's somewhere on the graphic.

Hi Paul,

Are you connecting with an actual MIDI cable or is it MIDI over USB?

+1 to the suggestion of trying to run a stand-alone instrument outside of Sonar to see if the problem still occurs that way... since you mentioned Sonar, I'm assuming you're on PC? (Though I think maybe it did have some sort of Mac compatible release at one point...)
