Poor MP3 transmission...

Newbie here, and having trouble with my vocals coming through on my MP3 transmission to Taxi and others.Same download sounds fine on CDs and before transmission, but after sending it to Taxi or email, the playback has diminished vocals while the music sounds fine... And it doesn't happen all the time either... Thought it was compression doing it, but uncompressed recordings will do it too! Anybody have any idea what's happening and how to fix it?

It's probably the streaming. Nothing to fix it, however, if you have a soundcloud account, you can upload wav files, and maybe they do better at streaming audio, you could open a free account, upload and see if it makes a difference. The screeners to my knowledge don't listen to the streaming versions, they listen to the mp3 you gave them as a copy to disk, though I could be wrong.
Areyou uploading at 320k bit or less??

Not sure, but I think it's probably 128k... Just downloading it off my laptop... But it's weird that it will work fine and then screw up! I always listen to my Taxi downloads to check, but I just had to remove one today! Will try again tomorrow! Haven't done the SoundCloud thing yet, but if Taxi would take Wav, I can export it that way. Thanks for replying!

upload to taxi at 320k, not 128, see if it's better

Taxi uploads require MP3 format.

If Len's suggestion for a higher MP3 resolution doesn't improve the sound, post back what you're using for your MP3 encoder. Have you used the same encoder at the same sample rates for other tracks and they sound good? Might need more details on your process.

Good luck!

Still don't know what rate I'm using (can't figure out where to find or change), but I was able to improve the sample rate converter on my DAW from mid-quality to best quality. This did improve the quality before export to mp3, but haven't had a chance to edit my music on Taxi yet.
I record at 44.1/ 16, then 44.1/32 on my PC/ Windows 7 (Audacity), then export to mp3, which is back to 44.1/16. CDs sound fine!
However, I have been uploading via WiFi and there may be some problems there too. Just have to t&e it, I guess, since it is intermittent...
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

for quality @ bottom of page
MP3 Export Setup
Bit Rate Mode

These offer four different ways to control the trade-off between the size and quality of the exported files.

Preset: These are the settings recommended by the LAME developers for encoding music. Detailed descriptions of these settings are given in this article on hydrogenaudio.io.
Insane: The best possible encoding quality. This preset has a constant bit-rate of 320 kbps, which is equivalent to 2.4 MB per minute. This setting is generally considered to be overkill as there is little if any difference in sound quality from the "Extreme" preset, but with much greater file size.
Wifi doesn't affect the quality of the mp3 file, you either transmit it or you don't.

Big help, Len! Thanks! Still learning all this new digital stuff... and where and what to do! Got all my MP3s edited on my laptop, so now got to upload new edits to Taxi to see if it helps... Sure sounds better here! Got to help there! Maybe this will help others too...

Just uploaded new edits to Taxi... Sounded OK on laptop, but only a little different on phone. Guess that's what I'll live with till I get a better phone... Thanks again!

Hi Len

so we can upload at 320k? I had read when I joined (just under a year ago) and it was 128K?

Just confirming

Wiz, I don't have the authority to confirm anything, there have been other discussions on the forum, you could do a search,
I seem to recall a discussion about it on an episode of taxi tv, but I don't remember which one. Officially, you could call or email taxi.
