After updating from Yosemite to High Sierra my 2012-ish Mac Pro tower is exhibiting some stress-inducing behaviors; my MOTU USB MIDI interface isn't recognized, likewise my Delkin USB card reader, though I get a notification it requires a powered port when I plug it into a non-powered USB receptacle. My Fuji camera and external USB HDDs also refuse to mount via the USB ports, though my iLok seems to be functioning normally.

The MOTU Micro-Lite is grayed-out in AudioMIDI Setup and re-installing the drivers and allowing MOTU permissions in the System Preferences' security panel did not help. I'm wondering if there's a patch or firmware update I'm missing; the MOTU issue seems to be a common one (and also in Mojave) but not so much these other issues. Any input would be appreciated.

Man, that sounds like a mess. You would think the jump from 10.10 to 10.12 would not cause many issues.

Have you tried resetting resetting SMC (System Management Controller)? Power down, then power up while holding Shift + Control + Option and the Power button for 10 seconds. (similar to the old PRAM zapping concept).

Last resort: do you have a Time Machine backup that you can revert to?

Dang, hate it when sh%t like this comes down the pipe.
Times like these I do first aid on the disks, unplug and replug everything and then go check for drivers specific to the OS version.
Have a look in your System Report [-Apple -About this mac-] to see if everything is being seen like your disks, busses and peripherals etc.
Just wondering if you try and open a session whether you can get the Motu working from your DAW's preferences.
Keep poking away at it and have plenty of tea, coffee small whisky breaks.

Haven't tried the SMC reset, that's next. If all else fails, I have a bootable Carbon Copy Cloner Yosemite backup about a week old, on a secondary drive. Guess I'm not a total idiot.

Firmware updates aren't installed automatically alongside macOS on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012), unlike other Mac models."

The unplug thing is still a handy trick as recommended here, different DAW but same principle.

I'm pretty sure I did the firmware update as described; I remember being asked to hold down the power button for a really long time Seriously, my app store search did not turn up an installer for High Sierra, but there was an update that says it'll take 37 minutes. Gonna reboot and try again.

Tried hot unplugging early on. Interestingly, rescanning in a fresh MIDI configuration resulted in a grayed-our IAC Driver and the Bluetooth icon is now missing.

SMC reset = no Joy.

I found this after some more googling; not sure if it's relevant, but I may give it a shot if re-installing regular High Sierra doesn't work. Seems some downloaders don't get the complete package, for unknown reasons.
