Haven't seen this on forums yet.....I've been putting a 1/2 second or less before my submission tracks.

But now I'm making my first stems for a new contract (yay me!). Thinking of making them a little tighter than that at the beginning. Publisher did not say specifics, so maybe it's fine like my initial full accepted track? Wondering what you all do.

(I do know to start all stems from beginning to end of full track length)

What I do, if my stems do not have a fade in, I set my left locator to a few ticks before the beginning, so that I have a very minimal amount of silence (next to nothing), and can still be very tight

Hey Steve, I start from the first instance of sound, no lead-in...
The tail is the only place I allow for a bit of silence
If the opening sound is hard or loud I might have a millisecond before and the slightest fade-in on the master fader so that it doesn't hurt the ears.
(Generally - I'm sure if I listen back to older stuff I'll find lot's of space )

Thanks! That's what I did on first few yesterday before I asked question. Went maybe one tick or something like that.

Thank you! That wold work to for "stingers" then too. (Been reading Steve Barden's book)

And thanks for bonus tip...tiny fade-in for loud hit at the top.

Is it just me, or does for instance SoundCloud sometimes clip the first few milliseconds of a track when it starts more or less directly? Or can it be that some audio devices do that? I think this is why I started to introduce a little gap in front of all my tracks.

Seems to be SoundCloud introducing some extremely short (order of ms) fade-in, I found that if you stop and restart from the very beginning, that does not happen. Seems random, also
