Stems: Automation on or off?

Hey there,

searched the Forum but didn't find the right answer.
When you send Stems to a library, you turn automation on or off?
Espacially for eq'ing like when there's a part without bassline and you automate for example the low cut frequency of the rhytm guitars to fill the spectrum of the full mix.

I would leave it on .... right?

Thank you

P.S. Great Forum

Deno

Yes just leave everything as is. I find the best way in my DAW is organise them into track Folders.

Bass - Drums - Keys - Vocals - Bv's - El Guitars - Ac Guitars - Perc etc

Then it's easy to make an alt mix by muting various folders and also render each stem by solo-ing the folder. YMMV by DAW as to the most efficient method but leave everything intact, and make sure each stem starts and ends in the exact same spot.

Hi,

thx for your response.

Had my first signing for two tracks. Thank you Taxi!

They send me instructions and one point was, like you guys said, leave automation on. So I did.

For alt-mixes i turned automation partly off or tweaked them.

Thank you and have a great day

Deno

Hi Deno,

Just finished my first go-round with all-mixes yesterday for a new contract and first one in years!
Left everything on and as Mark said, I'm now organizing my tracks in folders as well. Feel like a pro! :D
