Do I need a sub with this bass?

Hi again everyone,

I changed the bassline a bit and using real bass guitar now instead of a plugin. I know I still need to compress and process it more. I added a bit of low end using EQ.

How is the low end? Do you think I need to add a sub?

Many thanks for feedback its much appreciated!

There is a fair bit of sub in the kick. You might run into phase trouble if you make both the kick and the bass big. Even if/when you use side chain you will need to be able to somehow monitor what's going on as bass frequencies are so powerful and long over time as well as distance. 50Hz sine wave is 6.8m long. I guess one must think about getting the two to groove.

Have you got some spectrum analyser plugins that you can audition/compare your track with reference tracks? That combined with headphones would be your best bet [me thinks] unless you can get to a medium sized PA.

Thanks Lester. Good point! Great idea to use a ref track and spectrum analyzer.
Going to definitely give that a try.

Thanks! 8-)

Sounds very balance on my AKG 812. Caveat: No subwoofer here. :)

Tom
Thanks Tom 8-)

Hey Gavin!

I just happened upon this video channel and it seems worth watching. I haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm 20 minutes in with a little fast forwarding and the guy is making sense.

I always thought that using a spectrum analyzer was "cheating" my ears lol. But it serves as a great training and startup point. :D
