Cubase 10 vs Cubase 11, slower?

So, at work we have Cubase 10 Pro on some older PCs (Windows 7). It ran great, no lag when processing tracks (silence, stretch, etc.) We got some new PCs a few months ago, high end Sweetwater Creation Stations with Cubase 11 Pro (Windows 10).

Despite the new PCs, Cubase 11 is WAY SLOWER. For example, to silence 2 seconds at the head of eight 2-hour-long tracks, it can take up to 20 seconds to process. On the older PCs with Cubase 10, it is almost instant. Don’t mention stretching. All of our new PCs with Cubase 11 Pro have the same exact problems. A few of those new Creation Stations came with the newest Nuendo and they run well. To be clear, Sweetwater set up Cubase before we got them.

Anybody else notice a difference?

Check that your AV software isn't scanning every file as it gets created / changed. I would disconnect from the internet and then disable your AV software and try it again.

There is a firewall between the PCs and the gateway, so no internet. It is interesting to think about scanning the files. Did you mean the waveform analysis?

No. Some AV software will scan every newly created or amended file for malware. DAWs create a lot of files when you edit audio which will cause a delay whilst the AV software checks the files. If this is the case you need to turn it off.

I'm not saying it's definitley that but it has been known so worth checking.

Also very interesting. I could see Steinberg doing that. Thanks for the brainstorming!

Of course, you’re right. Not to mention that it doesn’t make any sense that Cubase would scan the files that it just made. I’ve been trying to fix this problem for months with frustration. I guess any new idea is exciting.

Maybe it’s slow because Steinberg collects every single file that is created by users in an insidious attempt to create a Frankenstein’s Monster of empty midi clips, eq presets, and 2-second-long .wav files of silence.
