Underscore alternative mix

Hello everyone,
I have deals with an international library because of a forward. They require different alternative mixes, and I want to ask a couple of questions concerning underscore mixes.
How is an underscore alternative mix different than a main mix? OR, how do you describe and approach an underscore mix?
Any comments would be helpful.

Your timing is perfect...

Maybe others will offer their views on how to make the best underscore, but my method is to start with the main track then mute all the tracks that carry the lead or main melody or attract particular attention, leaving a more subtle version that can easily sit beneath dialog. That might include only drums, percussion, bass and pads, and I might even simplify the drums if they sound too heavy. As with all alternative versions, I keep the track length exactly the same so an editor can easily flip between the underscore version and the main version because they remain in sync.

You're welcome. However, its almost 2 months since your original post. If it was only a single track you were providing it should only take an hour or so to make all alt versions/cut-downs/stems and provide accompanying metadata. I hope the library was happy with your underscore and also the timescale.
