First of all I want to explain a little about my DAW and how I want to use it.

I'm thinking of using Logic studio only as a multi channel recording device (audio and software).
All the plug-ins will be used by external software.

I'm currently using the built in reverb in logic (space designer) but I'm using T-racks for everything else (mastering, compressor and so on).

So, do you gear heads out there know anything about this plug in called focusrite plugin suite?
It's a bundle with reverb, gate, compressor and so on.
I'm mainly going to use the reverb on my orchestra and pop/rock production.

Does is sound good? easy on the processors?

The reviews I've read seem to say that the reverb is fine bit not great. For orchestral sounds I use Altiverb and it sounds amazing. I think you need a great sounding reverb for your orchestra music. The Focusrite will probably do the job, but given what Focusrite does best in the hardware world, I'm betting the eqs and compressors are bette than the reverb.

Do they have a demo version you can download?

Orest, if you just want it for the reverb, and I understand spacedesigner to be a convolution reverb, I would just buy some great ir's such as acousticas instead. There are also some great free ir's, liquid sonics' reverberate convolution reverb is a good one.

Check out Reverberate; it's the skinniest convo reverb I've yet seen, and any convo reverb is only as good as the impulse responses you use with it. (at least in terms of sound quality) Very hard to beat at the price, in my opinion. Altiverb is probably the ultimate in tweakability, if that's what you need, and it comes with a large IR library (Space Designer and TLSpace are pretty good, too, at least by reputation-I haven't used 'em)

You dont need better eq compressor etc and focusrite/tracks eq is not better than the logic stuff anyway. Waste of money.

Just upgrade the reverb to how you want it to sound.

I downloaded reverberate today. It seems to run smoothly on my machine.
It's free? And you can donate money if you want to?
I will try it out first and donate later on if so.

Altiverb seems to be one of the best choices, but I don't have that kind of money for the moment.
I'm saving for a high-end sound card.

Acousticas seems to be a good choice as well, but I don't know what kind of reverb to buy? There are many options.

I think the full version (true stereo) is $60. (requires stereo impulse response files, there's a bunch included, and more on the web) Go to Acousticas' site and dig up the free Bricasti M7 impulse set. That should put a smile on your face, heh.


UPDATE that's 30 GBP, depends on the exchange rate, I guess. I'm also getting great mileage out of the drum spaces in this:

I agree with mojobone, I was looking for the free bricastim7 impulses, they have all kinds of plates and chambers, halls etc. which would be perfect for what you are looking for!!! I'll have to do some more searching. I have these and the 2 emt packages, but I think the free bricasti ones will have more what you are looking for.

Orest, there is a video I can link you to called "audio myths" that I think after watching, it might change your mind a little about the need to save up for a better sound card. He also has the audio posted on his website, for better quality examples than youtube audio. He took a creative labs cheap sound card and compares it to apogee, and shows what they sound like after several generations of recording. The video is 58min. I actually watched it twice,lol, and I very seldom if ever watch movies twice,lol!
