Is anyone using this? I'd be interested to know what you think of it, it's strengths and weaknesses, etc. I'm wondering if this might be a viable alternative to buying a new computer (although there's not much price difference).
Thanks.

It's a very good, yet somewhat expensive product; the drawback is the operating system, which makes it difficult to upgrade your VIs and plugins-you have to wait for the Receptor version of each upgrade to come out, and it can sometimes mean a 6-18 month wait. The upside is also OS-related: lower latencies.

It's a tough call on this one. If I was doing a major tour, I'd probably get it, it might be more robust than a laptop and the OS is totally cut down to the basics for streaming samples which makes it fast. For studio work, I've thought about it and just said no.
The thing is, with a 64 bit computer and lots of RAM, you can load up a TON of stuff and I'm not so sure this thing is as flexible for studio use. I would consider a purpose built PC with Windows 7 64 bit dedicated to streaming samples over a Receptor unless I was doing heavy duty gigging/touring.
But that's just me.

Thanks Mojo and Mazz. Your comments have reinforced my own initial thoughts about Receptor, and I think I'm leaning against it.
I've got a growing wish list of vital studio upgrades - new mac, new PC, new mixer, LASS, just for starts. Jes awaitin' (evoking Squids) for the money to start rollin in.
