Jobs vs. Gates UFC cage match

In the light of Charlie2's "Mac or PC" question I thought I'd dig a little deeper and ask, "Is Steve Jobs a knight in shining armor or is Bill Gates a dweeb in a golf shirt?" Come on take the gloves off, we're all grown ups here. In case any blood gets on the mat 'Moderators: admin' can always call off the contest. Let's have a little competitive fun with this.

Jon, you made me laugh by saying on the one hand "we're all grown ups here" and on the other hand saying: "In case any blood gets on the mat...". Sorry, but the irony of these two ideas expressed next to each other is really too funny to miss pointing out!
But to take up the gauntlet, everyone is in business to make money, so Jobs and Gates are obligated to strengthen whatever path their on: no real heroes there. The reason I started the thread is because in the past it really was a topic that could get very heated. I've always been a Mac user but not very opinionated about it, it's just the format I started with. I think things are less heated now and we can talk about it on this forum without things getting out of hand. It's a subject I'm curious about, hoping to hear from those who really know about the advantages of either system.
But of course it doesn't hurt to stoke the fire a bit.

OK I'm a Mac. About 10 years ago I was a PC until my God-Daughter came over used our computer and downloaded about 11 viruses! In total it took me and my wife approx. 28 hours of service calls, reconfiguring, updating anti-virus software (which was a whole other issue).
At the time I made approx. $22.50 a 1/2 hour teaching guitar which 28 hours=over $1200. Not to mention I had to pay for some of the support. The computer never behaved the same after that, it was much slower than it had previously been, and had A LOT of trouble opening large files! AND I lost a few projects I was working on.
So I switched to a Mac. I've never had a virus, although I have never let my God-Daughter use it.
When I first made the switch I REALLY missed Word, Excel, etc.. but considering those are now available for Mac now and I'm using iWork comfortably for all of that stuff anyway...I'm happy I made the switch.
Very few platform, OS, or even updates are without some small hassles on any computer. On my PC these seemed to be much more time intensive than on the Mac which has surprisingly had few issues.
Just my 2c-
Mark

I'm a both, but do most of my work on a PC that no-one else touches. I figure there's room for both; geeks like stuff that's complicated, it's why it took so long for the propellerheads to come up with an operating system your grandma can use.(Mac FTW, in that department) I think PC is the future for musicians and producers, cuz Mac is taking the computer mainstream and mobile; for power users, the pendulum is swinging the other way, at the moment. Me, I'll use whatever gets me to the finish line first, because I enjoy music, not computers.

That thread title is too funny!
OK, let's see. I think Jobs would win somewhere between
5% and 14% of the match, and Gates would win the rest.

Wow this brings back memories. My first music computer was a mac. I had logic 1.0 I believe, well not quite, I think it was e logic or something back then. Anyway it had a reverb unit or space emulation that took a lot of processing in it's day, and I could never use it because the computer always crashed. For awhile it was mac, windows, back to mac. Mac's were proprietary and the only plug and play. windows was a bunch of dos string, anti-intuitive garbage. For awhile it seems both systems were basically buy a new computer, don't try to add a new peripheral. Then mac decided they were going to allow motorola, their chipmaker, and a couple other companies to make mac clones, what a disaster. It used to be that macs were geared more to creative types, but I think they lost their edge. Of course for a while it really depended on what software you used as to what computer you bought. Apple could have been number one, if they had followed Bill Gates vision of allowing other companies to contribute, but they wanted it all. Then it became where there was hardly any software for the mac. Mac's business plan for awhile was supplying schools, thinking if they could get kids in the habit of using mac's they would retain them in adulthood. Of course there is an advantage in the short run by introducing proprietary devices and coming to market quicker than the competition, but I think history will find Gates the truer visionary, however Jobs is a hyper salesman. I think the tablet was greatly over-hyped and didn't seem that revolutionary to me. I used to wonder if all the virus's weren't either written by mac zealots or anti-virus companies, lol! Pssst, don't say anything, knock on wood, but I have a windows machine, and I haven't had any anti-virus protection, I have had spyware, and use a spyware program though. Anyway, I hope people keep buying them, because you never know if one day they might come out with something truly innovative, that windows will take a generation to catch up on, of course I'd probably need to be flush in cash and don't have to shop for value.

I've never had a mac so I can't comment. But I love PCs because I'm a fiddler...I love buying new parts and building new PCs from components. Can you do that with a mac? (genuine question)

That's not really the target market for the Mac. Apple has always just made really cool stuff that works easily. In order to do that, they have to control as many variables as they can, including who built the hardward and what's in it.
