ADT - Artificial Double Tracking: GREAT free plug-in!

This has been a little "secret weapon" of mine for a while now. I'm lovin' it on vocals and guitar.
I'm not associated/affiliated with this website...I just love this FREE plugin. :)

This is from the vacuumsound website:

The ADT technique was developed at Abbey Road Studios by engineers recording the Beatles in the 1960s. To free John Lennon from having to sing everything twice for real double tracking they came up with an artificial replacement: they sent the original signal to another tape machine and re-recorded it. Due to the physical distance between record and playback heads the new signal was delayed. The length of the delay depends on the tape speed (the slower the tape is running the longer it takes for the signal to travel from the record to the playback head). However, due to the machine's (small amounts of) Wow and Flutter the delay time was not fixed but varied slightly, giving an additional chorus-like effect.
The ADT Plug-In takes a mono input signal and creates a stereo output. The original input signal will be output on one channel, the new ADT signal on the other. Blending the two is also possible. The Plug-In allows to control the delay time (10 - 50ms), Wow and Flutter (both with intensity in % and frequency). All values are based on the technical data of the tape machines that was originally used to create this effect. Take a look at a screenshot.

BTW, once you have successfully installed the plug-in, there is also an improved GUI available that looks like this:

Download http://asseca.com/wiki/uploads/MGUI/ADT_GUI.rar, extract into your VstPlugins folder, keeping the folder structure intact, read the readme.rtf on where you need to place the original ADT.dll file.

Note: this plug seems to be 64-bit only.

Hi Mojo,

I've been running this in Cubase 5 on Windows 7 32bit...no problems. :)

Honestly, this is THE BEST sounding double tracking plugin I've heard. It's almost unfair...

...better than any of the ones I bought... :x

I saw this plug before, and would love to try it if only wish they made an RTAS version!

A VST to RTAS wrapper like this might help (not sure, I've never needed one)...

Have you tried Melodyne? I am very impressed with Melodyne's ability to create double tracks. I was just wondering how this one might compare to it.

Hi Casey,

Did you install the 1st one? That's the version that worked fine for me in Cubase. :)

ADT v1.0.5 (128.5 KB ZIP) - VST 2.4 Plug-In for Windows, including 64-bit signal processing
http://vacuumsound.nullmedium.de/getfil ... v1.0.5.zip

There are 4 different version on the page...please read it carefully.
See here: http://www.vacuumsound.de/plugins.html

After I installed the plug-in successfully, I then updated the GUI (see the second link I provided in my original post).

Alternatively, I've uploaded my ADT folder from my (Windows 32bit) VST Plugins folder here:
https://rapidshare.com/files/461839174/ADT.zip

Simply unzip this into your VST Plugins folder and it should work (it also includes the new GUI). ;)

What a teriffic find Stuart!
Thanks for posting it.

I tried the original download but it didn't work.
After your later "four version" post I downloaded the 64 bit version, and it works great.

Cheers,
Dave.
