Hello all,Not posted in a while but was wondering what you lovely folks find frustrating about producing music? Whether it be something to do with mixing or sequencing etc.I always found compressors a nightmare to get my head around. I would use them but not really have an understanding of why I wanted to compress the track in the first place which probably led to bad mixes!Just wondered what you guys find (or used to find) frustrating about writing/producing and music technology?Cheers everyone

getting the mix to sound professional... would like more clarity and punch... getting a decent mastering level without over compressing... I could go on for a while..

Right now it's getting my room acoustically right for mixing. Also finding an affordable desk that accomodates an 88 key controller, control surface and gas a large writing desk surface. I'm going to have to have that one built.

Mixing bass and kick so they work well with each other. Too much bass, not enough punch, vice versa... Can be very frustrating.

I agree Bass and Kick. But then I don't do any vocal work so maybe that. The rest of it is pretty straight forward.Keith

right now I think my biggest frustration is finding the sound that I want for a particular line. I've taken to writing melody and counterpoint using an electric piano patch, and then I start wandering through my collection of instruments and synths looking for a quality that jumps out and says "yeah" when applied to that line.my other frustration is creating enough low end... or bringing it out enough - I think I'm getting better at it. I know if I post on the forum, at least one guy will say "it's too top heavy, add more bass" I think I'm getting better at mixing but I am still a little confused over when to EQ and when to compress.
