Ok - i recently had to re-set-up my studio and for some reason, my XLR microphone isn't registering. The computer seems to see it in logic - I have it plugged into my apogee duet, and yet when I set up a new audio track in logic - I get no signal in the track. It's like something is not connected. It's definitley plugged into apogee correctly, I have the system preferences set for duet as output/input and I went to audio in logic and selected duet also - what am i doing wrong? Any feedback??Anj

Not sure what you changed. Hard to know what the problem is with the little info provided but here's a few thoughts:Possibly you don't have the proper input selected on the channel strip. Make sure the input is set to the same input your mic is plugged into. Depending on your mic you may need a mic pre to bring it up to line level. Condenser mics usually need this. It could also be that core audio is not recognizing the Duet. Check to make sure it is getting recognized there as well. (Sometimes drivers can go bad). You may also want to reset your permissions under disk utility and reload the apogee Duet drivers.Hope this helps!

Hi Anj,I'm not familiar with the Duet, but I'll bet it has a headphone jack on it. Check with headphones to make sure your getting signal into the Duet. If not, than the problem is somewhere between the mic and the Duet. If there is signal in the headphones than the problem is between the Duet and Logic.Besides System Preferences, you can check the Audio/Midi utility in the Apple utilities folder to make sure the Duet is selected as the default input. It might worth checking Auto Input Monitoring under Options/Audio/Auto Input Monitoring and then click on the the little "I" button under your channel strip.Besides Christi's ideas that's all I can think of for now.Good luck, Elser

Phantom Power, that's the first thing I'd check.

You should try to be a bit more specific, when talking about connections and technical stuff that requires trouble shooting blind. Just a little heads-up, cuz it makes it harder for us to work our way backwards, eliminate, and problem solve for ya. I use logic and have an apogee duet, im sure ive ran into whatever your issue is at some point, and its likely something petty that you overlooked... The quickest fix can be done over the phone in probly less than 5 minutes. If you havent fixed your issue yet, ill pm my number and we can square this away; but be sure to try the suggests mentioned first.It probly has something to do with the areas mentioned before. sorry for the scatter-brained message guys - i was totally out of it and pulling my hair out... hence the lack of details. Anyway it ended up being the phantom power... duh!!! thanks for the help

Not to worry; I was chasing my tail for half an hour jes' last month, same thing. The complexities of the modern studio-I used to have a troubleshooting guide, shoulda had it laminated; swap out the cables first, then start at the source and work backward toward the mixer, I think it said.....

The beautiful thing about this is, the next time this happens, you'll know what to check first.It's a pretty steep curve on this gear/studio thing, and any number of things can go wrong, even in a relatively simple setup.I am paid to troubleshoot complex systems in my day gig and I can safely say that it's usually something really simple that can bring a system to it's knees. So here's my tip on the first question to ask yourself: Is it plugged in, is the power on? You'd be surprised how many times it's something as simple as that.Step back, take a deep breath and then check the power!!!Glad you're back up and running!Mazz
