Mark,Some may disagree with me or have other preferences, but I've owned 3 pairs of Yamaha RH-5Ms. They tend ta' be delicate, and I ruff 'em up pretty good, so as far as durability is concerned, they suck. But as far as sound is concerned, they sound really good ta' me. Just like listening to your monitors (if you have good monitors), except they're on your ears. They don't sound thin & weak like some that I've tried. The bass & mids come thru quite well, and often you end up turning the volume down rather than up. Maybe they're souped up or whatever, but I like 'em, and I keep buying them. Perhaps there's a bit of a secret sound ingredient or somethin' taken from the NS-10s. I'm sure there are high end phones that sound better, but for $50, they BUMP better'n most I've heard! Just my .02.I-468

(I understand that what I really need is good monitors, but when you do most of your work when the wife and kids are asleep...well, you compromise!) I have a higher-end pair from Sony, circa 1985 or so...truly remarkable that they worked well for me for so long.But I'd like to join the 21st century now.

Hey Mark, I bought the Audio Technica ATHM40fs (I think that's the correct model, I'll double check when I get home) and I love them.They are only my second pair I've ever owned so I don’t have a lot of experience with headphones. They are very comfortable and isolated, if my wife ever yells at me I just put them on and it's like she's not even there! j/k! The sound is very flat with an extended freq response. Both sides swivel which is a little annoying for me, I just taped one side so that only one side will swivel.Samedaymusic.com has them for $70 with free shippingMarc

Ultrasone ProLine 650. Oh... just called Pro 650 now.... Best I've ever used. Holding up well after 3 years of solid use.

I got a set of the Ultrasone 650s on Stick's recommendation and I like them a lot. Comfy, great sound. Mixing on headphones? Well, those who've participated in other threads on this subject know how I feel about that! But if you have to, then play the mixes the next morning on as many different systems as you can so you can learn how to "mix around" the anomalies in your phones. As a matter of fact, this is a good practice for any type of mixing in any room/speaker or 'phone situation.Mazz
