Any Alesis Monitor opinions?

Specifically the Alesis Monitor 1 Active MK 11 Monitors.Does anyone use, or has anyone used in the past these monitors?I've come across a slightly used pair for $200 and am thinking about picking them up. I currently use M-Audio Studiophile DX-4's. They are tiny and I think this would probably be an upgrade?

Hey man - I don't know that model but I have a set of Alesis monitors (superport, 1 & 2) and I think they're great. Now, they are the only set i've ever owned and they were an upgrade from regular pc speakers. Good luck!

Also - much as I hate to be a weenie - you're at a considerable disadvantage if you're trying to produce something that sounds good without being able to hear what's going on clearly. If you need $200 speakers to get started, well, sometimes that's where it's at and it's better than nothing. In fact I'd go farther and say that it's great that the game is now open to people who only have $300 to spend on a pair of powered monitors that are intended for studio use; I don't want to sound negative. But while I can't set an absolute figure on what you need to spend for decent monitoring (powered monitors or speakers + amp), I can say that it's more than that. So this may be a good deal and a step up, but if you're serious about this, for the long term you might think about something higher-end.

Thanks for the input Nick.I'll hold off a few more months and go for something better down the road. I use Mackie HR 824's at one of the video production houses I cut at, I know those sound great, maybe I'll hold out for a pair of those. They go for around $600/pair.

Tim, if you like the Mackies you may want to look at the new Mackie MR5 and MR8 series. I picked up a pair of the MR5 monitors at Guitar Center for $300 for the pair.

The HR824s are down to $600 a pair?! They used to be $1500. Wow. The wonders of Chinese people who work for $.50 a day...

Yeah, the HR824 Mk. IIs are $600 each. That seems more like it.[edit - $600 not $60!]
