Clocking MOTU on different systems

In my studio I want to hook up 2 PC's with MOTU interfaces. One computer will run a piece of software that I will use for summing. This software is audibly better in live situations so I want to see if it will work as well for summing in the studio. (the whole digital summing vs. analog summing issue) The idea is to stay in the digital realm.
PC#1 running the DAW is using a MOTU 2408 mkII, PC#2 running the other software is using a MOTU 828 mk3 hybrid.
I plan to use the 2 optical outs of the 2408 to the 2 optical ins of the 828 for the 16 channels to be summed. I will then send the 2 channel result back using SPDIF.
Are there clock settings in the MOTU ASIO control panel that I need to set properly so that there aren't any issues with doing this?
Thanks
Russell
