Since I started to use Logic 8 a pop up window came up occasionally with the warning that the audio engine is over loaded not able to process the sound, but then I would re start the track from the beginning everything was OK.Now is so bad that I am barely able to operate, especially if I load Kontact 3 the sound is constantly stopping. I am using the I mac intel. So there should be plenty of pawer!!Any suggestions to how this is happening?Thank you.TINO

Hi Tino,I keep getting that too, I asked the apple people about the, audio overload, and audio or disk too slow. They indicated that the hard drive was too slow and may need replacing.. I thought this strange being it is a brand new machine.HTH..Bob

I don't know Logic but I do use a Mac (G5) and I can say that I would suspect the hard drive as well. If you're streaming lots of tracks and samples from the same hard drive (particularly if it's also your system drive), you could see this issue. I suggest separate drives for audio and samples. Both of these drives should not be your system drive. Basically you'd have 3 hard drives. Also, make sure you're using DFD (direct from disk) in Kontakt (not sure how that is set up in K3 but I can't imagine it's that different from K2). This will conserve RAM usage. Of course, if you have 8G of RAM it's less of an issue! Also check your buffer sizes. If you're doing a lot of VIs and you need low latency then you need to set them low. After you've tracked your VIs, bounce them to audio and disable them. Then when you mix you can raise the buffers up and the machine will run smoother.Just some ideas to check. More details about your system and buffers settings, etc. would be helpful in troubleshooting.Mazz

Hi MazzThanks for replying. I am already using 2 external hard drives, 1 for audio and 1 for samples if this is what you mean, that’s why I am so surprised.I am going to try this DFD business and see what happens.

What are you running? Can you turn off some instruments or tracks and get it to work? And what's the buffer setting of your audio interface? What audio interface?I wouldn't assume it's the hard drive, and I *never* freeze tracks (you don't bounce in Logic, you let it freeze everything in place for you, where it can be thawed instantly). Freeze is a great feature, but it's not the way I want to work; I want everything available in real time without having to bother with stuff like that, so I throw multiple machines at the problem.

I have gotten that same message ever since I started with Logic 3 on a Mac G3. It usually means something isn't set up correctly, and that your computer is trying to do too much with it's available resources. I still get it when I load too many CPU hogging plug-ins, and I use Logic 7 on a 1.8 dual G5. .Nick and Mazz are already giving you great advice re: buffer and what Kontakt3 needs. The only other suggestion I'd make is to verify that you indeed have enough Ram, and that your Ram is also not defective. Good luck.

Kontakt 3 is notorious for high CPU usage as many of the patches have convolution reverb built in... disable those extra insert effects and you should hopefully not get the errors anymore.
