Firebox and Nvidia incompatibility?

I decided to try a dual monitor setup. I bought an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS PCI express card and managed to set up the monitors ok. I'm using the Presonus Firebox, and since the upgrade have had either crackling on playback, or a complete loss of sound. On removing the Nvidia drivers playback is fine, but I then lose the dual monitor option. On reinstalling the drivers the problem is back.I checked the Presonus site for known issues, but there's nothing on the GeForce card.Has anyone had similar problems, or know of any work arounds please. Or maybe there is particular card that is recommended.

This was a big issue in the old days and was usually the result of the sound device and the graphics device sharing an irq. This was fixed by moving a card to a different slot or turning down the graphics acceleration on the card down. The graphics card is hogging resources and the sound card doesn’t like it.Assuming your on a PC, you should see a setting for hardware acceleration in Display properties/Advanced/Troubleshooting tab, you might try turning that down and seeing if it the symptoms change. If your on a mac than I just wasted 3 or 4 minutes or your time, I apologize. Joe

I have an nvidia card (EN7600GS silent), dual monitors, and a Presonus Firebox - no problems. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Thanks Joe, it is a PC.There is no acceleration option. It was there on the old card, but not on this one.On boot up, I can play a music file fine in media player. Then when I open Sonar, the sound is gone. If I close Sonar then try the file again with media player the sound has also gone.Seems like the card's just not compatible.Might try another one, maybe the one zircon mentions. This one's obviously more geared for gaming.I don't need all the 3D etc.Probably take this one back Monday, but if anyone else has any answers then please feel free. Thanks to you both.

This is the card I have, specifically:ASUS, EN7600GS SILENT/HTD, GeForce™ 7600 GS, 512MB DDR2, PCIe x16 SLI, VGA+DVI, TV-Out, RetailIt cost about $120 a year ago when I built my computer with AVAdirect.com (HIGHLY recommended, by the way!) It doesn't have any really fancy features, but it does have a nice amount of video memory (in case I did need to do some video editing or work of some kind) as well as a heatsink rather than a fan - so it doesn't add any noise.
