I just received Stylus and I work on Pro Tools LE1) the tutorials showed the gent working on an "assembly" type window on the bottom of the plugin...he could drag tracks there and aligh, cut, edit, etc...Can ProTools do this to? or is the only way to drag it onto the PT screen?It seems if you are working with a bunch of channels, the "build in the plugin" version would seem to be quicker.2) Also, when I tried to cut and paste the loops for about 20 bars, it kind of lost sync..anybody else have that issue?Thanks in advance!

Hi B Flat (great screen name by the way!)I'm sure there is a Pro Tools specific video included with Stylus, if not, check their website.I think that you may be mixing a few different functions up and I suggest you step back and take it a step at a time with the tutorials.Stylus works on 2 basic concepts: 1. Triggering the grooves in Slice mode where the MIDI files are dragged to tracks and look like one big chromatic scale and basically trigger the little slices that make up the grooves. 2. Groove menu mode which is where you get a list of grooves and you can trigger one or any combination of those by playing MIDI notes on your keyboard. Typically from middle C upward but not always. In Groove Menu mode things can get out of sync if you don't have the right triggering set up. You can trigger on the next beat, the next 16th, immediately, etc. I've been using next beat mode lately because it's idiot proof for the most part as long as you want to trigger grooves on the beat (which seems to work 90% of the time for me).This will all make more sense as you dig in deeper. I'm not a Pro Tools person but I'm pretty decent at the basics of Stylus and a little bit beyond.Cheers and hope this helps a little,Mazz

Thanks Mazz,I will take a look at the tutorials again (I did view them). I think the gent was using Logic, so I thought it might have been a Logic thing. It did seem like it was part of the plugin, though...He was actually setting up the whole song with this "window" that was on the bottom of the plugin. It seemed like a pretty easy workflow.Thanks again...I'll take another gander.

B Flat,I think from the way you're describing it the "assembly window at the bottom of the plug-in" was not actually part of the plug-in, but instead Logic's "arrange page"...I think that's what they call it (because RMX doesn't have an assembly window like you're describing).Logic's arrange page is really the equivalent of PT's main "Edit" page if they still call it that. Just as the...uhm...tutor was dragging and dropping RMX loops onto Logic midi tracks and then cutting and editing, so you should be able to do the same thing in PT.It's possible or in fact likely that Logic's way of doing it is more elegant, PT has always been a bit kludgey when it comes to Virtual Instrument integration and MIDI editing.

ah...I think that was it, Matto....Logic definitely seemed more elegant (great word!)Oh well...I will forge ahead PT style!

Hey flat,I did a couple of tests the other day with styus (I use Sonar 5.0). I was able to drag and drop a clip onto a sonar midi track, convert it audio, and then copy & paste the audio to create a longer track. I made sure I had my "snap" function on so it would line up perfectly with the next measure(s). I got some positive results. Everything flowed nice and smoothly. Perhaps there's something not set in PT that's causing it not to sync properly. Gonna' take a little bit fooling around, but it shouldn't too be much. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Of course you can only narrow it down to either something being funky in stylus, or something being funky in PT. Or perhaps both. But that should be where the problem starts & ends.ibanez468

I agree, Ibanez468It was really the first chance I had to mess around with it. I am sure the problem was "user error" somewhere!If not, a gazillion Pro Tools users would be up in arms about it!

the "snap" in protools is grid mode. Make sure you are in grid mode (F4) -- sounds like you are in slip mode. Also make sure the main time display in your edit window or transport is set to bars and beats. If your selection is not on the grid and you repeat, copy or loop the selection it will be out fo sync.btw-- what protools lacks in midi elegance it makes up for by kicking Logic's butt with audio editing Aub
