and buy my korg D888...I know there are better machines out there, but I had a korg D8 and the D888 is it's big brother..{so no learning curve}anyway..about 10 years ago I borrowed what I think was a tube preamp ? from a friend for a recording -I ran my condenser mic through it for vocals and it was incredible..also ran a bass through it with cool results..I have NO idea what it was but need to buy something similar tmrw when I buy the korg...any suggestions ?...and yes..price is a factorI would be using it mainly for vocals but might want to run an instrument through it too..thanks..john

Hey telaak,I'm sure there are better preamps out there, but if cost is a factor, you might want to check out the art tps II preamp. It has settings for vocals, elec. guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, keys. Nifty little rack device. And relatively inexpensive. Been happy with mine so far.ibanez468

The ART unit can be purchased with a digital output option which I recommend. The A/D conversion might be better than the one in the Korg or at least will give you one more option in your bag of tricks. It looks like it adds 50 or 60 bucks to the price. If you can swing it, I'd get the digital output while you're at it.Mazz

What's your budget? They start at cheap crap built into all kinds of things and go all the way up to thousands per channel.A few years ago I sold all my outboard gear (which was all budget stuff) and bought two Millennia Media channel strips. They listed for $2900 each at the time, but they're incredible and I'll have them the rest of my life.On the other had there's nothing terrible about some preamps that sell for a couple of hundred dollars or less.

Comes in right on your budgethttp://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOFTRACKPRO

they didn't have the ART...but did have the M-Audio Fast Track..so I bought that..as well as the korg D888...and a boom stand...and a pop filter...and a guitar stand....and some new cords...and i'm sure another thing or two....but @ the end of the day I finally have a quality home studio.. I was also able to buy it at a store where the salesman was the drummer on my current recording project..which is nice seeing he'll get a hefty commision..it came with Cubase Le to process & mix the tracks..time to learn that I guess..and acquire some drum loops to mess around with..thanks for everyone's help..john
