ArkJack's question of the week.......

I've been working on a number of "instrumental " tracks for film/TV submissions and was wondering about changing my methodology. What better place than the forum for some direction??,....... When I produce a "soundtrack" piece, I layout a rhythm, melody line, and related chords ... For the most part, the structure is a verse, chorus... with a melody theme.... I tend to make the piece 3 repeats of the verse chorus with a little bit of variation in the melody lead..... I usually use the same instrument to play through all three verse chorus using the same basic melody..... so its basically the same theme performed three times..... each verse chorus segment would work as a cue of the piece as a stand alone..... Feedback has suggested varying the track by bringing in a different lead instrument or embellishing the background rhythm with a different chord pad to change up the tune at each new verse..... So for a good film tv track:1. should it just be the on take of a verse chorus for a 45 second cue.... then a new track using different instrumentation to create a new 45 second cue....??2. Would it be better to have a 3:45 length track that has the 3 verse chorus scheme switching out the instruments as a whole song??By varying the tempo, the "cue can be stretched or compressed by 5 to 10 seconds either way.... would it be state of the art to time the segments so that they come out to exact times.... 30 second 45 second 60 second...If the answer is yes to 1, would you submit more than one of the 45 second tracks to a listing, and would it be counted as one submission or two separate submissions....To hear an example of what I'm talking about, on my Taxi page is a tune called The Boatwright that demonstrates the 3 vc production without changing instruments..... Just wondering what others are doing and what is prevalent and appropriate for the submissions and in the real world....ArkJack
