Hi all!I'd love if you could listen to a song, "Intertwine" that I recorded for a friend of mine. It's on his myspace (
http://www.myspace.com/mikementzermusic), and it's the second song up there.I have hit a wall in my production skills, in that every time I try and go beyond guitar and vocals the sound gets muddy. The electric guitar sound I'm getting is not great, especially in the bridge I know.So mainly I'd love thoughts on ways to improve the production on that track or a similar one.It was recorded using a medium-quality large diaphragm condenser mic for both vocals and guitar (electric guitar DI), using some digital delay and reverb on the vocals and a limiter on the whole thing. Thanks in advance!Sincerely,Brian

Sounded great to me. I was listening through crappy computer speakers to. This is purely a personal thing, but I would have left the lead vocal with only a little reverb and saved the delay for the harmony. But like I said thats just personal preference. How do you record the acoustic btw? Is it electric or do you mic it (if so what mic)? just curious I'm shopping for a new vocal/acoustic mic.

Diogenes,Thanks man! I can definitely see what you're saying about the delay, it does seem very present in the verses. At the moment I use the BR2-Pro large diaphragm condenser both for acoustic guitar and voice, it's pretty inexpensive, but I've learned its nuances. There's an Audix that I'm looking to possibly step up to, I can't remember the model number offhand, but its a couple hundred dollars. Thanks for listening!-Bri

percussion - congas, would breathe some more life into it. Maybe a big honkin jembe or something like that wouold be cool. Most people seem to recommend a condenser for guitars. Myself I use a Rode NT-2 large diaphragm, haven't gotten around to buying a decent small mic. I really am not the right guy for engineering, I'm more of an arranger.

Ahhh I like the hand-percussion idea! I just need to figure out how to mic one now...
