Hello All: I was wondering what software for recording each of you use and what you like and dislike about it. I'm currently using Sonar and I like it just fine but i'm curious as to what everyone else here uses.

Not in your ears, JD!I use SONAR studio 6. I master with wavelab.

I'm not doing any sound recording and I have no outboard gear other than a single 88-note midi controller, strictly midi-based VST virtual instruments. The only time I actually use a sound file is with some older and/or acidized loops and I just drop those in and go.I'm still on v5, yet to upgrade to v6 but I have no real complaints and recommend it if someone asks.

You need really sharp needles, Dave. And a lot of them. But in the summer, sometimes they run and you get all your work erased.

I use Digital Performer on Mac. Been using it since the early 90s when it was just Performer. Before that wax cylinder. I had MIDI retrofitted to it in 1983. I like Digital Performer way better. Since I do a ton of MIDI and I know my way around it well, DP works for me. I edit in notation a lot and that is very functional in DP as well. I've heard good and bad about Logic and the same about DP but it's really what you're used to. I've always preferred Macs but I have a PC as well, just for playing back samples.So far I haven't been able to hear what platform anyone's music was created on so hopefully it's still the music that ultimately matters anyway!Mazz

Well its good to know that Sonar is popular. I see alot of threads talking about Pro Tools and I have friends that swear by Pro Tools because of its use troughout the recording industry but I started with cakewalk products years back and I just can't seem to find software that compares to it as far as audio and midi capabilities.

I've been out of circulation for a while but the Wax Cylinder thing? That was a joke right?
