Tascam 144 / Cubase LE Help!

OK, I feel silly but I just got this stuff and I am having some startup problems. The user's manual for Cubase is very light and the screen shots often don't match what is in my version. I got to the point where I record guitar on audio track 1 and play it back. But I can't seem to record vocal onto a 2nd channel, audio track 2. I sang into the mic, saw the meter moving ( I think), but when I play back all I hear is the audio 1 guitar track. This should be very simple and I've wasted a lot of time here...Anyone familiar with this setup, especially from a recording novice point of view? I use a PC, not a MAC and it's Tascam US-144 with Cubase LE...ThanksCasey

Are you soloing channel 1?There's a solo toggle on each track which excludes other tracks. (I used cubase years ago, I'm sure there are guys using it on here now). Make sure it's not highlighted. You can click it to toggle on or off. It's normally signified by an 'S'.Also, can you see a waveform representation of the audio on the track? If you can, then you recorded it I use a different package, so I'm doing this from memory. Though my current software has a lot in common with it.

OK, I think I got it... Thanks Jeffe and Travelin' Ed... I wasn't properly using the Monitor button. It seems that you can have that set while recording a channel but for play back of the channel you have to turn it off. I also was getting what was set for Input 1 and Input 2 mixed up though I'm still not sure it makes sense... But if the green thingy goes up and down than I'm set to the right input... And I'm a freakin' engineer, I'm embarrased to say!!! Casey

Casey, You are a SOFTWARE engineer, after all. We understand that this can result in serious technical limitations.

The days when you could use alternative chips and solder a bit of wire to use the same gates if they were on different pins.Then PC's came along, and Multi-level boards came in. It became a throw away culture. What use was there for circuit board repairs. So I got into programming.
