I'll try to be brief. New to midi. I bought a refurb M-Audio Keystation 49e from MF. When I plugged it in, the computer recognized it as an audio device (USB), but not midi. The Abelton Live Lite5 didn't see it at all. After a two-week dance with tech support, I downloaded MIDI-OX (per their suggestion). It didn't recognize the keyboard, so the tech guy said, "Bad USB jack, send it back" Got a new unit. Thinking that my previous problem with USB phantom power might be part of this, I took Andre's suggestion and added a powered USB hub--solved the pp problem, but the keyboard still doesn't work!The book says it's plug and play with XP, and won't take any other drivers (tried to upgrade). The computer sees it as an audio device, but not MIDI, and every window that I click PROPERTIES says that it is funtioning correctly. Whudammidoonrong? :

Hmmmmm ---Og, I don't how this new technology (built-in USB MIDI interface) works. Does MIDI information also go out of the keyboard into your computer sequencer through a USB cable?I went on the M-Audio website, and right after the writeup on your keyboard, they have additional hardware that they recommend, and one is their Firewire-Audiophile MIDI/Audio interface, which I own. That confuses me --- why they would have that right after the description of your 49e? Sorry --- I've got more questions than answers! NICK! HELP!Ern

Yeah, Ern, everything goes thru the USB cable. There is a MIDI OUT port that (according to the instructions) can be used as an alternate to a MIDI IN on the soundcard--which mine doesn't have.NICK! HELP!

Sorry eg, I don't know the answer. Have you tried taking out the driver completely?

How do I take out the driver of a plug-and-play unit without assing something else up?

Ed, I don't know if this helps, but I have a Korg concert piano that I connect from its midi out to the computer via a Midisport Uno, which is a real cheap gadget from M Audio. It has a driver and works fine with XP. If you have a regular midi out on the keyboard, you might want to try it.

Might be worth a shot if nothing else helps. It pisses me off that the directions say "plug it in and go", and I do but it won't!
