??? For Nick!

Hey Nick,Is there a device that will start recording a sound (i.e., my neighbor ) at a certain volume level, and then stop recording once the sound has stopped? I know you could set up a limiter or noise gate at a certain threshold, but then you'd have to weed through all the silence in between the sounds.I know there are motion detector video cameras that turn on the camera and record to a hard drive, then turn off the recording when no more motion is detected. It seems like there must be something like this for audio, but I've never heard of it.Thanks in advance,Ern

Hi Ern-I'm not Nick, but here are a few options:http://www.snooper.se/http://www.shoptr ... der.htmYou could also use a regular digital recorder and use its strip silence/auto region features to "cut to the chase" faster.Good luck,Andre

Thanks, Andreh, that's very helpful!Ed: We've had a few incidents (pounding on the wall, spitting at our pet sitters etc.) that warranted going to the LAPD again for violating the Stop Harrassment Order. The cops will probably do nothing, as usual.BUT, today my wife and I had a dispute resolution meeting with our HOA and our lawyers. They agreed to fine, fine, fine everytime this nut does something. What they didn't agree to is reimburse some of our attorney's fees etc. which will soon approach $20,000. Ern

Best of luck in settling this stupid annoyance soonest, amigo. Sounds like as much fun as a low-grade fever that won't go away. Maybe you can sue him for interfering with creative flow or something.

Although some states allow one-party consent, (For recording conversations you're a party to) your particular state may not. Intercepting someone else's conversation by electronic means is a no-no! Make sure you don't commit a crime during the process of resolving your neighbor issues!Blessings,
