Help!

I just bought a refurbished Mac G4 which came with OS 10.3. Since the software I'm using (Performer/Mosaic) runs on OS 9, I bought a disc of 9.2.2 on eBay. It works fine.BUT ---It seems my MacAlly USB keyboard that came with the G4 works to open the DVD drive on OS 10.3, but not on OS 9.2.2. Macally says OS 9 works with the USB keyboard.I can open the drive by holding down the mouse on booting up OS 9, but there is no way to close it, other than manually. When I put in any CD, there is no icon on OS 9, so there is no way that I can figure out how to open it or drag it to Trash and eject it.Apple: E doesn't work. F12 doesn't work. Option: E doesn't work. Nothing works to open the DVD drive other than rebooting and holding down the mouse as above. If I can't open the DVD/CD drive, I can't check out the MOTU OS 9 software.Help! Ern

Hey Ern,Sounds to me like you have a non factory drive in your new 'puter. The Superdrives are notorious for breaking (I've gone through a few). Check and see if you have Toast, or some other burning software on the computer. If so, you should be able to control the drive door via that software.HTH,Z

Hmmmm, Zink, I think you may be right. Everybody has been telling me it's a software problem, but I've been sleuthing around the G4 and got this message about the DVD drive:The package "DVD Player.app" could not be opened, because it cannot be used with this version of the Mac OS, or there is a problem with it. --- If there is a problem with it, try reinstalling the package.I've got a Mac techie who is going to look into it.Ern

Quote:Did you get your drive going yet?Yup! I hired a Mac techie, and he was great. He first thought it was the DVD drive, but went through a bunch of tests.Turns out, my Mac OS I bought on eBay (or) the Mac OS on the computer lacked alot to make things work. The techie clean installed all of the Mac OS 9's until it accepted my software. It was quite a process, which I don't understand. Now I'm up and running!Of course, now my Giga software is crashing --- And so it goes ---Ern
