Mikes and preamps

I have a chance to get low-end, but nice condensor mike--the Samson C01; that means I need to get a preamp with a phantom supply (my mixer, which is my current pre, doesn't have one), which is fine, cause I need a pre anyway. I have been looking at single channel units and the Samson C-Valve looks interesting for the price point (clearly none of this is top end). Anyone have some good or bad experience with that unit? The other one that looks interesting (on paper) is the MAudio Audio Buddy. I know the mike sounds great because I've used it at a friend's studio, and he ran it straight into a DAW (now deceased).Thoughts appreciated.
