Who's Your Biggest Supporter?

The answer for me is simple - my wife. She believes in me believing in me. She also tolerates night upon night of performing or going to support other local artists without much, if any, complaint. I know it's not always fun for her, heck, on some days it's not fun for me if it's been a long day or long week. But she's always there and very rarely looks at me when I say I need to spend more to follow the dream. (OK, maybe when I say I need another guitar - I tend to get a bit carried away there....)So, who's behind you?Steve V

Steve,To some degree, I suppose you could view it that way. The only other real support I have is from all of my musician & producer friends. We're all on the same page. But if things should amazingly change for the bigger & better picture, I'll bet I suddenly find all kinds of support! ibanez468

I have a couple of mentors that I meet with regularly and they offer professional direction, advice, and learning. The next group of support that I find gives me motivation and realistic feedback is Taxi and the staff of screeners, along with ML's newsletters and sharing. The third group where I get a lot of support and encouragement is here on the forum. Again, professional advice and insight. Last of all, is family and friends, except my brother and my niece. My brother is a pastor and a musician and songwriter, and my first collaborator. My niece is a music major in her senior year and accomplished pianist. We encourage and support each other, but have been in different directions for a while. My mother in law goes more ga ga over my songs and recordings than my wife, kids, and other family members put together. I have to mention the little kids that hang around my trailer listening to me play during the summer, that is really the cats. The thing about my mentors, Taxi screeners, and the forum group is that it is real support in that they know how this business is, and most of the time will not sugar coat whether they think your work is up to snuff. These boards. Without a doubt, the first ever peer support I've ever gotten that hasn't left me high and dry without warning. And that's including my own family... Granted, now that I've actually SIGNED some of my pieces, my family is starting to come around, but you guys were there for me even before they were.Ted
