As an update - here are the recent conversational lyrics I wrote...

= =

ONLY HEAVEN KNOWS
© Dan McGowan / All Rights Reserved

VERSE
Don’t remind me - we used to be what they call “involved”
But that’s behind us
Still I wonder about the reason you called me up
For a cup of coffee

BUILD
I’m not one who’s easily surprised
I usually miss those signs but I see something in your hungry eyes

CHORUS
River Walk, Flirty Talk, this ain’t the way I planned it
Let’s pretend we’re just friends even though I don’t understand it
This ain’t the way it supposed to be for you and me
but let’s just see where this thing goes
Cuz baby, only heaven knows

VERSE
Can’t deny it - I still love standing close to you
Oh my - that perfume!
Are you playing me? - ‘Cause if you are then I’m a foolish man
But if not then here I am!

BUILD
Tell me what I did to make you leave
‘Cause what I’m feeling now is hard for me to believe it’s true

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Dance with me, let’s remember how we met
Your San Antonio eyes, my burgundy Corvette
What’s right is right, we know where we belong

CHORUS

And - here is a soundcloud link to enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/danmcgowan/only-heaven-knows

Thanks for the feedback.

conversational lyrics are really about what one says and how they say it. First it has to be logical and plausible. then they need to be phrased with words and accents that are how people speak. nobody uses "thou shalt" anymore. here's an example of how the wrong syllable is accented. talking is accented on the first syllable, not the second.

I don't find your lyrics conversational, because I can't follow the conversation, there are a lot of unexplained details, too much in the abstract, seem like random events without any connection.
