Gender reactions

About a year ago, I wrote a song in the country genre for a female vocalist. I't currently in a pitch demo form.
I played it a few local and industry critiques ( I think I played it for a few folks at the TAXI rally last year).
I noticed the reactions at the critiques.
The men liked the driving music, but the lyrics made them nervous. The women liked the lyrics more.
There are more males/men/guys at TAXI than women. At the same time, women do make up a significant part of music sales.
