O.K. Check out the chord pattern on this one. "Ice Cream Changes" as they were called in the olden days. BUT, on the bridge (and I didn't know Lennon used this technique so early in his career) is his infamous half-step "4 to a major 3rd" change! In this case, I believe it's a G to a F# major chord. So he did that WAY earlier than "Sexie Sadie" etc. THAT'S why so many bands of his day said "The Beatles play SO many chords!" --- No one else played many chords other that I - IV - V at that time.

Yup, except Paulie did a minor chord down a half step.

Great vid from the Ed Sullivan show! In the bridge the second time the F# is substituted for an E7 too, which has an interesting relationship to the tonal center of the bridge (V of ii if you consider it going to G) and is also V of V in the home key of the song. The impact this has on me is the F# acts more as a tension chord while the E7 acts as a "pull" chord, which helps bridge the gap between the bridge and back to the verse. Can't go wrong with the Beatles!
