Hello Every body,
I have been watching all the "Black Keys" listings lately and watching the great Monday shows trying to figure out how to read the listings.....
I deceided to try for this post that showed up Thursday in my email.......

BLACK KEYS INSPIRED, HIP, EDGY BLUES ROCK SONGS needed by a TOP HOLLYWOOD MUSIC SUPERVISOR for the upcoming, Fall television season. He needs (and we're quoting him here), "CURRENT & CONTEMPORARY sounding SONGS containing GROOVY, R&B, BLUESY RIFFS in the vein of The Black Keys album 'Brothers,' specifically songs like 'Sinister Kid,' 'Tighten Up,' and 'Howlin For You.'" DO NOT copy or rip-off those songs in any way, shape or form! Use them ONLY as a GUIDE for general lyric themes, tempo, vibe, texture and mood. ALL SONGS WILL BE SCREENED PERSONALLY BY THE SUPERVISOR HIMSELF. If you've got what he needs, this a great chance to get your material placed in Major Network Hits! He's in song gathering mode right now, so this is a great chance to get in early. Final selections will be made closer to the season's start, but he's been loving what he's found so far from our members, and they're going into his personal stash! Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of the Master and Composition rights. YOU WILL KEEP 100% of the income if your song is used -- NO Publisher split on this. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All songs will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS by the Music Supervisor himself. NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. The Supervisor will contact you directly if he is interested. Submissions must be received no later than TUESDAY, July 5th, 2011 at 10:00AM (PDT). TAXI# Y110705BR

I am going to rewrite a couple lines tomorrow after work and submit it..... Any suggestions on making this closer to what is asked for in the listing........ I have ben a Taxi member for almost two years and do not have a forward yet.......

I think you're pretty close. I would argue with the drums though. If you listen to the reference tracks, TBK uses a more bouncy cont. rock/ blues groove, while you use a straight rock'n roll beat. When you're working with a la's, the groove is really important. I wrote a song inspired by Black Keys a while ago, and used a Motown beat. Just before I was to submit, I realized that the reference tracks was based on a hip hop groove. So my track was out of style. Style = groove.

Thanks Magne,
I completely agree about the drums... The reference songs aren't straight ahead like mine. I would like to change them, but don't have a good idea there yet....Glad I have another week

THANKS.....!!!!!!

The second track sounds a lot closer to the Black Keys, at least to my ear, but in all fairness the Black Keys have spent a lot more time learning how to sound like the Black Keys than you or I have, heh. I think your drum grooves are still too 'tight', but "sloppy good" drums is a lot harder to do than sloppy bad. :D

Thanks Mojobone,

I can't stand the loose sloppy open hat stuff that the Black Keys drummer does, I tried to put as much of that in these songs that I could stand......... The songs were returned, "not edgy / modern enough"....... This is some of the first songs I completed with Addictive Drums, every thing else I have done in the past has been with a 1974 Slingerland kit and eight microphones... I agree with the assessment, I tried to be similar without actually copying any song..... That is a fine line to walk.... on to the next listing... Write, submit, forget, drink a beer, repeat....

Two suggestions for your signature Mr. Mojo

" When I am feeling blue, I start breathing again "

" Instead of called ID, I want caller IQ "
