Wrote a duet - looking for male vocal ASAP!

So... I wrote a duet and completely underestimated how difficult it would be to find the right voice for the male part. I recorded it in the studio and decided to just sing both parts while I continue searching. I'd really like to finish it, so I'm looking for a strong (possibly country?) deep male vocal. I would like a nice contrast between my voice and the male vocal - Kind of like Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock in "Picture". They would also need to harmonize in the chorus. I would love to find someone here on TAXI who fits the bill, so if you are interested, please let me know where I can hear your stuff!

Also wondering what a typical fee is for a demo singer on this type of project. I was thinking a flat rate? I really have no idea, but I did contact someone online who I thought would be perfect and he wanted royalties?? He also wanted to change the melody to suit his voice...huh? That didn't sound right to me, but I have never worked with a demo singer. Would love feedback on this!

You can hear the song on my page...it's "The Night".

Thanks!
Melissa

in some ways, the right price is what you can get someone to sing it for :)

there are several services which do work-for-hire tracks (i.e. no royalties, and you own the resulting tracks) - caveat! I have not used either.

there are also a number TAXI members that run demo services and they have posted on the forum before.

hope that helps.

Hi Melissa,

Nice Song!

If you don't mind me saying so, it feel like the title is "The Quiet of the Night", not simply "The Night".

I really love Tim Settle's voice!

He's a taxi.com member, though I haven't seem him around the forums for quite a while.

Hi Melissa

I just had a listen to your song and it's quite lovely. If you're still looking for a male vocalist I would be interested in helping you out with it. I have my own studio and could mail you the finished wave file if you feel that my voice would be suitable for your music. Here's a link to my website http://danielhalen.com that you could have a listen to and there's quite a few examples of different styles to go through. I'm pretty confident I could do the Kid Rock style for your song if that's where you want to go with it. I haven't been too active on the TAXI forum lately but I'm now making it a priority to get busy back at making music and if I can help you out with the vocals on one of your songs, then maybe you could do the same for me in the future and see where it takes us.

Best

I love your song, and I think I might be your guy; send me a WAV file (preferably a stereo instrumental track and your vocal in mono, with a zero start) and some instructions on where to sing solo/where to harmonize, whatever, and I'll do it on spec, pay me if you use me. (PM me for a quote) I'm happy to work for hire, but I may have suggestions to make your song stronger/more marketable, which you can keep or sweep, but if you use 'em, I don't believe participation should be out of the question; at the end of the day, it's your call. You can ding me for notes on the mix, too, and at no charge.

I'm so excited about the response I've gotten about this. I'm so sorry I have been MIA this week after posting this - Thanksgiving duties and I played the other night and I was getting ready for that. I'm so new it take every ounce of focus and energy to pull it off. But I will be listening and responding back this weekend. Just need to put aside some time to really zero in on what I want to do with this song.

Mojobone...I will send it over to you this weekend. Can I attach that in a PM or do I need to send that via email? I am always open to suggestions! I have a few things I'd like to change on it as well. But, if I could just get the version I already have done in the studio finished, I'd be happy for now. Thanks for you offer and kind words...I'll be back in touch!

Hi Melissa,

Listened to your work-great stuff. Not so sure my voice is what your looking for but I live in Delaware which is close to you and I don't charge. I am working on a duet now myself. If you are up for singing or could use my voice let me know. You can hear some of my songs at: http://www.songu.com/members/jp

I was going to make the same 2 recommendations as Andy did here. Of course, finding a Taxi member here who would do it for co-write or % of future earnings would save you money up-front.

Good luck!

WAV files are often too big for email, but I have a dropbox here: http://soundcloud.com/mojobone/dropbox (instrumental track in 16 or 24-bit stereo WAV or AIFF, 44.1kHz or 48kHz, vocal in mono at same sample rate and bit depth, please) click the link, follow the instrux; if you have troubles, PM me thru the board, and I'll find us an alternative. I can make do with MP3s, if it's all you got. Also, you have a PM. Thank you for your consideration! :D
