Who else is going to be taking songwriting classes in July on Kauai? Forget the dots.... We should wear Taxi Tshirts.

Sigh. I wish. Haven't been there since 2005. What fun.

I never miss it.
It's the best songwriter conference out there IMHO, for many many reasons. (See ya there Judy, and Michael L.... no offense).

Kauai doesn't offer the breadth of knowledge and options like Taxi but it's more intimate and you more easily get face time with the instructors. BTW, I told this story to friends recently. At the Kauai festival, I met Lynn Grossman who was the music super for the TV show House at the time. I played her 2 songs that were too narrative before just squeezing in a last song called Everything's Ok. Her eyes lit up and she said, I could use that song. Go get it produced, you know gorgeous, strings, professional singer, everything.
Here's the context: I had been pitching at Taxi, and about 5 other organizations for 3 years prior and just got pats on the head. Good job, keep it up, improve your writing, improve your production. I was SO used to being kindly dismissed, it wasn't until my wife grilled me 3 days later that I realized, a music supervisor, not a library, not a publisher, the actual person who could license my song on the spot, had ASKED FOR IT! She wasn't just being nice and encouraging. She said "I could use that song"
Ok, I'm an idiot. You don't have to rub it in. It still took me 4 months to find a producer, rewrite and get the song done. I finally ferreted out her email about 6 months later. You think she ever replied to me? nope. And I don't blame her.
Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread but I'm actually starting to enjoy telling the story. Admitting such a huge mistake makes me feel way better about all the little hiccups day to day.
Long story short? Kauai: good. Music Super: good. Not listening? Bad.
