Hey All,I just heard the oldie "Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult on the radio the other day, and it dawned on me ----Were they a "parody" band? I always thought they were serious, dark, and sinister when I was younger, but now I'm starting to think that they were a very subtle parody of the dark, sinister bands of the day, especially lyrically!Have any of you ol' rockers gotten that same impression? Thanks in advance,Ern

Not sure. Godzilla always seemed like a pretty "serious" tune to me. Ooh no, there goes Tokyo - Godzilla!

If you google Cully Stout Beer, you get this: http://www.brownejenkyn.com/fritzpics30.htmlBOC has been known to appear in small venues under a former name:http://www.lesvegas.com/softwhiteunderbelly.htmlYour guess is as good as any. The band has always managed to give their fans a bit of mystery to go along with the music. I used to crouch behind jet blast deflectors while F-14 tomcats took off from the USS Nimitz under full military thrust (w/afterburners). BOC is still the loudest thing I've ever heard.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_%C3%96yster_Cult

They were every bit as serious as Wishbone Ash.

From Wikipedia:"Slightly tongue-in-cheek and eclectic songwriting"I don't know if "slightly" is the proper word! Ern

They came out on tour again recently, opening in Atlanta then the Santa Cruz County Fair! $8.00 admission. I don't think they are doing the arenas nowadays.

According to Wikipedia, Christopher Walken's character in the famous "More Cowbell!" sketch is a dead on impression of BOC's manager, Sandy Pearlman.
