I hear a lotta bellyachin' 'bout where the country bar is set and waaah, it's too high, but to my way of thinkin', the real crime is that Dolly Parton doesn't have a record deal. (she's a smart gal and puttin' out her own stuff these days) Go out and write as good a song as Shinola, I dare ya. http://www.myspace.com/dollypartonWhy in heaven's name is this not on the radio?

That can't be true. Hard Candy Christmas is one of the the best vocal performances ever. Ever! That's BS, if its true. And if its not, well I guess that it's still BS.

Dolly's a national treasure. I really like the way she did this one.

Must be voluntary, if she doesn't. She writes some AMAZING songs. I actually didn't know until somehwhat recently that she wrote Whitney Houston's hit, "I Will Always Love You". DP is awesome!

I've been in love with Dolly for years, and I know she's in love with me. I can tell by the way all of her songs are being sung TO ME!I haven't sent her any love notes written in my own blood (yet), I'm giving her the chance to find me first

Well, you need a record company to secure a promotion budget and distribution. Dolly has her own money, her own bus, her own theme park, for cryin' out loud-what on earth would she need a record company for, she's already famous.... Like I said, smart gal.

The fellow whose studio I use has had a recording company contract for thirty years and is going to self-promote his next album. Over the last 5-7 years the record companies have put more and more burden on the artist to produce and promote the product, with less support and advertising by the record company. Ms Parton is a very smart woman, who still regrets having to leave Porter Wagoner to go out on her own. Loyal.

Mojo I work with an engineer that has worked with Dolly on projects, and to this day if you ask him "have you ever worked with anybody that you did not have to tune and edit their vocals" ?He said one that he can remember, guess who ? Yep Dolly Parton. He said she nailed it every time. Performance in the studio is what I think is lacking on most recordings. It's so easy to lie to the artist and try to fix it in the mix. It's better to be up front with the artist and say "Hey, I think we are still one away" In the end everybody will be a lot happier.
Find something you love to do so much you will do it for free, and learn to do it so well they will pay you for it.

I worked with a long time engineer/producer in Nashville and I asked him the same question, did you ever work with an artist that you didn't have to comp the vocal. He said only one that he ever worked with, Lyle Lovett. He said there are very few who can do that. Dolly is another one. She's just plain amazing, she can do it all!
